On the Monitor

Shower Time For Mommy is the boys' one and only free-for-all in their day. I hold my breath as I wash my hair and dry off in the 58 seconds I dare to let the little munchkins out of my sight, and I can do nothing more than hope for the best when I come out.

While I am not a super huge fan of toddler TV watching, there are definitely times in the day I can see the benefit. And so each day when it is Shower Time For Mommy, I pop on Thomas the Train or Sesame Street, prop them up on the pillows in Mommy and Daddy's bed, and even hand over the remote (ooooh!). But it is no sooner than I turn around to sprint head for the shower that I begin to hear them planning their 58 seconds of freedom. I don't dare turn around to see where they are headed first, because I only have 56 seconds left to spare.

Sometimes (always) when I get out of the shower, my bathroom looks like this:

And this:

And my closet looks like this:

And my 58 second shower has now created me at least 20 minutes of picking up and organizing.

But a miracle happened today.

Granted my bedroom and bathroom were still a complete disaster when I came out, but during the 3 minutes and 12 seconds I allow myself after my shower to actually get ready and look presentable for the day, I overheard the boys playing in Aaron's room via the baby monitor in our bedroom. Their voices were sing-song and adorable and I could make out every single word of English from the eyes of a 2 year old:

"Less doo wit, Awron!"

"Be cawful, Oohwen."

"Hmmm, less see heure."

"I sixin' it!"

And so I made my way over to Aaron's room and peeked my head around the corner so as to not interrupt their brotherly conversation, I realized that they had unplugged the sound machine from Owen's bedroom and were laying on the air mattress in Aaron's room truly trying to "fix it" by plugging back in the cord that had come out. They were working together, calling eachother by name, and all I can say is that it was just plain CUTE.

While many unpleasant cries and shrieks have come over the baby monitors in the last 2 years, this moment today was by far, my favorite.
